A pair of giant pandas left Chengdu on Apr.4 for Copenhagen for a collaborative research project.
Five-year-old Xing Er, male, and 4-year-old Mao Er, female, left Chengdu at 7:30 on Apr.4 and headed to their new home in Copenhagen Zoo, Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding said.
They will live in Denmark for 15 years, according to the agreement signed between the Chinese Association of Zoological Gardens and Copenhagen Zoo in 2017.
China and Denmark first agreed on the program during Queen Margrethe II's state visit to China in 2014.
Since November 2015, Copenhagen Zoo has sent veterinarians, keepers and nutritionists to the panda base in Chengdu. They will also learn how to speak Chinese in order to better take care of the pandas.
The base has so far established international cooperation on giant panda research with 16 countries and regions, according to Zhang Zhihe, head of the research base.
